Welcome to Sampa Bites, an overall declaration of love to the city of Sao Paulo!
I am Mari, the head behind Sampa Bites, born and bred in Sao Paulo, Brazil – which we locals call affectionately as Sampa, the city of drizzle.
As many locals living in such a megalopolis, I am used to take everything my city offers for granted and – to tell you the truth – I never really took much interest in exploring it. After travelling abroad and exploring cities inside out to find their hidden treasures, I realised how little I know my own city. So I have decided to become a tourist myself and take advantage of my position as a local to really get to know Sampa.
Eating out is one of the many ways to get to know different cultures thriving inside Sao Paulo. It is said Sao Paulo does not have a “typical dish”, since it is a city where people from all races and backgrounds converge, a melting pot of culinary delights! Of course it isn’t all that true, even Sao Paulo has its share of typical dishes going all the way back to the first explorers. But it is true that you can find in Sampa food from all over Brazil and beyond.
Also, I love eating out and exploring new restaurants, looking for good quality and equally digestible prices. Do not expect anything too fancy, nor too commonplace. But do expect culinary events, when high-end restaurants offer reasonably priced set menus.
Of course there is more to Sampa than just food. I will also show you the side of Sampa that is usually overlooked by most: its beauty. Sampa is a busy, crowded, skyscrapers-filled city that also has beautiful parks, exquisite old narrow streets, stunning architecture and art everywhere. You just need to look at the details.
All in all
I live in Sampa and this is my hunting ground! I hope you stick around and enjoy this city as much as I do.
